Experience the rhythm of rural Nepalese life amongst idyllic Terai scenery at this peaceful wilderness retreat. Nestled on the fringe of a traditional Tharu village, Tharu Lodge is reached by a short bullock-cart ride from the Narayani River, the natural boundary between Chitwan National Park and the surrounding townships. The lodge is designed in local longhouse style and features 12 rooms. Surrounded by lush forest, it is the perfect place to unwind. Besides exploring the national park, there are options for a boat safari down the peaceful Narayani River and birdwatching tours.
There is also a small pool and lovely gardens in which to relax. Many of the ingredients used in the lodge’s kitchen come from their own vegetable garden as well as from local farmers. There are eight resident elephants at the lodge and you can spend time getting to know these gentle giants. Those looking for a cultural exchange can also enjoy visiting the local villages and schools.
Operated by the same people who run the famous Tiger Tops Jungle Lodge, the Tharu Lodge offers tranquil accommodation in traditional style, but with the low-tech addition of solar heated showers in all of the 12 rooms. All meals and activities are included during your stay here, which could include boat trips, forest and farmland walks, bullock cart rides, visits to Tharu villages, and local cultural dances, amongst other attractions including a pool and tennis court. As usual, staff are constantly on hand to discuss your interests and offer advice on how to get the best from your stay.
