Upper Mustang Trek

Upper Mustang is known as a mystique valley and the last forbidden kingdom of Nepal and is also known as a 'Mini Tibet of Nepal' and a very well-liked trek. Mustang trek lying in the rain shadow of the Himalayas is perhaps the last enclave of pristine Tibetan culture. Forbidden & isolated from the rest of the World it was able to evolve its own distinctive culture and traditional which is so rich & unique. Lo-Mangthang, the capital of ancient Kingdom of Lo is walled city ruled by religious Mustangi King. Untouched by modern civilization, life in Mustang goes on as it has for centuries in unhurried pace. A trek into the kingdom of Mustang is an unforgettable experience. Upper Mustang is restricted area of Nepal. Who wish to visit Mustang, have to pay special permit fee and apply for permit any Gov. Resister trekking agency in Nepal. The tremendous beauty and the culture will make one awaken who reach the Mustang for the first time. But only the first time will not be the end it will encourage you more to come again and again. As everywhere in the Himalayas, this area provides spectacular mountain scenery highlighted by Dhaulagiri at 8167 meters (26,795ft) and Annapurna I at 8091 meters (26,545ft). You will be surrounded by more than 35 Mountains over 6000 meters (19,680ft) high. The elevation of the the trails rise from 2815 meters (9,233ft) to 3780 meters (12,398ft) above sea level.

Lo Manthang was founded around 1450 by the son of the legendary Ame Pal, who conquered and united the small kingdoms in Upper Mustang. A high wall, 300 m long and 150 m wide in the shape of an L, has served as protection against bandits, warriors and the ferocious winds. It's never been extended, archaeologists see this as a prove that the village hasn't changed much in the last 500 years. 1'200 people live in the 140 houses which are connected by narrow alleys which go beneath houses at a few spots. Most houses are two-storied, houses of upper class can be higher but by far the biggest buildings are the monasteries and the palace.
